Hello all, I am using the 6711 DSK to do mp3 decoding. I want to know how to play the PCM samples. Can I use the TLC320AD535 on the board? I see it has a 8kHz sampling frequency, will this be a problem to play music? Will the sound quality be bad? Or should I maybe use an audio daughter card? Any other information on this subject (code, app. notes, tips) is also appreciated. Thank you very much. |

If so - there's no problem with playing them through AD535 although the quality will be poor due to it's 8kHz sampling rate... > Can I use the TLC320AD535 on the board? yeah - that's what it's there for... right? > I see it has a 8kHz sampling frequency, > will this be a problem to play music? why would it be? > Will the sound quality be bad? "bad" is a relative term - some people like it ;-) and why don't you try it out by converting some audio files to 8kHz sampling rate on your PC and see (hear) if it's acceptable for you? > Or should I maybe use an audio daughter card? you mean the PCM3003 card? surely the quality will be much better as it's working with 48kHz sound as default - or rather 24kHz due to the mistake in the user's manual ;-) also - remember that either way you'll have to deal with the interpolation/decimation if you have 44.1kHz sampling rate in your MP3 files... > Any other information on this subject (code, app. > notes, tips) is also appreciated. well... if you decide to use PCM3003 and have trouble using it - feel free to ask me - I have some sample code etc... good luck... Yes the sound quality for music will be bad at 8 kHz. A daughtercard with sampling rate at least 24 kHz would be a good idea; you might also want to consider 2-channel (stereo) depending on your music examples and project requirements. For a "consumer electronics" sound-quality equivalent, the sampling rate should be at least 44.1 kHz. Jeff Brower system engineer Signalogic |
