OMAP Technology:Birds View?

Started by Bhooshan Iyer February 16, 2005

Hi!
Am not sure if this falls into your area of expertise but I was
looking for some information on the OMAP Business Model and how
various players play their role and who is who's customer.I dont know
whether its just me,I found it very confusing!

(Lets just look at one of the Application which uses OMAP-The Cell Phones)

1] In the one end, I see TI --who are the Architect of this technology
-- and on the other end I see the *consumers* of this
technology--Nokia and then the end customers! Now where do all these
OTC's (Independent OMAP Technology Centers) ,ODN's (OMAP developers
network) etc figure?

2]How many layers are there between TI & Nokia here? (My understanding
is OTC-OMAP Technology enablers,ODN- Alg. Developers) Are there any
other players other than TI->OTC->ODN->OEM(Nokia)->End Customers? Or
am i looking for a non existent simplistic view that my mind craves
for?

3] If I have to write an application, lets say a game, for OMAP do I
need to know about OMAP architecture? I guess not, but the reason I
ask is then does that mean that there are this huge majority of
companies who are OMAP business benefeciaries without actually either
working on OMAP or enabling OMAP.The largest chink of revenues are
likely to go these apps developers.Iam not getting this.Something
seems wrong.

4] Basically, am trying to figure out the System Intergrators,
algorithm writers, application developers and component makers (the
terms i found in some app notes) etc...Is there any presentation or
doc for that kind of business perspective on OMAP? or can someone be
*cool* enough to give me some *gyan*
(Gyan= "The cool lecture on the Truth" in sanskrit, btw)

I guess you can see where am coming from here, we are trying to find
our feet here in OMAP and we dont know as yet where and who the
customer is!
