AAC | ADPCM | Convolution | DAFx | FFT | IIR | Mixer | MP3 | MPEG | MPEG-4

I have a basic question about MDCT. 
Why 2N point MDCT results only N point meaningfull frequency bins.
Please correct me if i am wrong. 

A 8 point fft should produce 8 frequency bins. 

Is it because of the symmetry property of the DFT across FS/2.

Please correct my concept i am really puzzeled.
